Cholera toxin B retrograde tracing from brown adipose tissue and forelimb to the stellate ganglion.

Study Purpose: For neuromodulation of stellate ganglion (SG) projections to brown adipose tissue (BAT) to have clinical applications in obesity and type 2 diabetes, it is essential that stimulation protocols avoid projections from the SG to the heart and upper extremities. The neuroanatomical organization of brown adipose tissue(BAT)-projecting stellate ganglion neurons was mapped relative to forelimb-projecting stellate ganglion neurons in mice.
Data Collection: Data consists of 32 stacked images (LSM format) of SG from a Zeiss 710 confocal microscope.

Experimental Design: Juvenile male and female mice were allocated into two experimental groups based on a strain: (1) B6.FVB mice were assigned to NPY/GFP+ group and (2) C57BL/6J were assigned as wildtype (WT) group. Cholera toxin B was added to the interscapular brown adipose tissue. The stellate ganglia was removed, fixed 3 days after CTB injection and imaged with Zeiss confocal microscope 710 using tile scan and z-stack options.

Subjects & Samples: Juvenile male (n=4)and female (n=4)mice, 5 weeks old, were used for this study.
Primary vs derivative data: Data in the primary and derived files are divided by the experimental group, then by subject identification. The primary folder contains lsm formatted images. Neurolucida 360 from MBF Biosciences was used to convert primary images with the lsm file extension (in primary file) to the jp2 extension (in derivative folder).
